A study in ruins and under the shadow of the Nazi past - those were the difficult conditions for the Faculty of Theology at Bonn (Germany) in 1945. The new beginning was marked by scholars, including K. Barth, who all came from the Confessing Church. This volume recounts the occupation of Chairs, the extraction of important professors such as Dinkler, Gollwitzer, Iwand, Kreck, Noth, Schneemelcher, and Vielhauer, and the history of institutions and specialized institutions. Embedded are reports about conflicts with the Evangelical Church in Rhineland that ensued because an appeal from Bultmann's disciple, E. Fuchs, failed due to ecclesiastic veto, and because members of the faculty expressed concerns over a reorientation of the relationship between Christians and Jews. An appendix with texts by late faculty members and texts about their careers closely reflected the scientific level of the faculty. The author examines the fate of its faculty as a personal witness.
