Deep Processing is a workbook written to help experienced followers of Christ mature through the really hard times in their life and leadership. This workbook uses the life story of Job in the Old Testament as the backdrop for understanding a biblical perspective on pain and suffering. Several practical questions are explored: -How can I limit suffering in my life and/or others I care about? Is this even possible or good? -Are there higher or deeper purposes in suffering that I cannot wrap my brain around, but are ultimately good? -How can I deal with the suffering that comes my way in a gracious and loving manner? -How can I help others have hope in the midst of their suffering? These questions are just the tip of the iceberg of understanding the complexities of pain and suffering, but they are the questions that help frame this study of Job and deep processing. They serve as the framework for a better understanding of what the Bible says about the purposes of deep processing in the development of Christian leaders over a lifetime. Submitting to God in the midst of these situations and circumstances will ultimately determine whether we finish well in life and ministry. Seven specific categories of "deep processing" are described and explored: -Life transitions -Life and leadership crises -Life and leadership conflict -Leadership backlash -Isolation -Spiritual warfare -Brokenness Deep Processing is formatted using the IDEA approach to transformational learning. Each chapter will begin with an Introduction (I) followed by Discovery (D), Explanation (E), and Application (A) sections. The goal of the IDEA approach is to facilitate the "gracious work" of God through his Word and Spirit (John 4:24) to transform us "into his likeness with ever increasing glory..." (II Corinthians 3:18, NIV). Transformation comes from our cooperation with God in the deep processing of the human heart that results in us becoming, "a letter from Christ... written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts." (II Corinthians 3:3, NIV) Deep Processing is designed as a stand-alone and/or companion to other workbooks in The Finishing Well Series. This series of workbooks includes Finishing Well; Deep Processing; and The Extraordinary Power of a Focused Life for leaders who want to finish well in life and leadership and leave a lasting legacy.
