ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder and is the most common mental disorder affecting children and adolescents. ADHD often begins in childhood and can persist into adulthood. It may contribute to low self-esteem, troubled relationships, and difficulty at school.
It is not uncommon for children diagnosed with ADHD to believe that there is something wrong with them, and that they are different from other children. They may even think that they are "dumb".
