Herb Rooney
and
Brenda Reid
were the only constants throughout
the Exciters
' extensive career. Many thought they were all girls, but
Herb
was always there, if not vocally, in spirit as the deal-maker and shot-caller.
Rooney
arranged, produced, and wrote most of the material on this album. There are some good songs, but
, seeking an identity and a commercial edge, meandered all over the place, mixing southern wailers like
"Leaving Him Tomorrow,"
with
"Stay Right Here This Morning,"
a
Motown
-ish rehash. A good ballad featuring
Brenda
's strong vocals and an uptempo jam are decent, but nothing reeks of a hit. ~ Andrew Hamilton
