A very popular and well known herb most often associated with Italian cooking, basil is easily grown in most climates. Basil is used to season tomato sauces, dressings, pasta, and chicken and is the main ingredient in pesto. While it can stand alone, it's also a great item for seasoning pairings; garlic, cilantro, and oregano all make great combinations.
