In a world where the currency is not paper, but instead the exchange of spells. A world where the population is split based on wealth, between the Powerfuls and the Powerless.
But there is a sliver of hope for 12 of the Powerless citizens on the first of every year when they will compete against each other, betraying and fighting tooth and nail through multiple games to be crowned the winner. You might ask what they win. and that is powers, spells, the chance to be a Powerful. A chance to live.
So when Rory Evander and her rival, Wilder Ashborne, are selected, they obviously accept, not knowing each other are playing.
Once they enter training, their first challenge is probably the most important one, and that is to choose one ally who you will be working with for the entirety of the competition.
What ensues after that is relentless training and a ruthless fight to the finish. As the tension between Rory and Wilder starts to build rapidly, the final game begins, being held in a stadium for all to see.
Some may perish, but only one will win.
