Talos is an artist, a naturalist, and a lithander-a person carved of stone. He lives with his brother but spends his days wandering the mountains and observing the natural world, not realizing how lonely he is.
Maëlle is a human woman dreading her arranged marriage to a nobleman. While she doesn't like her betrothed, she's convinced herself it's her duty to tolerate him.
When Maëlle receives devastating personal news that makes her situation with her fiancé unsafe, she flees on her owl gryphon to the mountains-and into Talos's life. As the gentle stone man and the strong, vibrant woman discover truths about themselves and each other, they feel the budding promise of something new, something bigger and more lasting than the mountains.
