A geologist by trade, Shayna had agreed to join the scientific colony tasked with terraforming Mars in the hopes of offering a better life to her family who continue to suffer the aftermath of war and famine on Earth. She did not foresee getting left behind when the rest of the colony fled a surprise attack. Nor did she foresee needing to survive repeated encounters with an unknown Martian species.
