The poems in this remarkable collection speak of those things that linger from the past and carry through to the present and into the future: violence, war, love, anger, yearning, the fragility of sanity, journeys remembered, journeys not yet taken. Meticulous, contemplative, savvy, wry, angry, and at the same time hopeful in timbre, Newberry’s voice speaks out and encourages her readers to search for some kind of harmony and complicity with their surroundings. These moving poems are works of disclosure and remind us that “…to witness must be to speak.”
