It's been eleven years since the apocalypse began. Saythe Grace is the son of Aisling Grace and Shaun Clemmons, and he is growing up fast. Aisling sees more of Shaun in him every waking moment, even though he's the spitting image of his mother. They are traveling towards her parents' house, on the other side of the continent. They've been walking for weeks upon weeks, and Aisling has been trying to make herself feel like it's worth it. She only half believes that her parents could be alive, and she knows that if she finds them dead... She won't be able to handle it. Saythe was the only thing keeping her sane. That was, however, when she met Erile. He was a lunatic that she found raving about in the snow, talking of magic and traveling between dimensions. She thinks of casting him off, until he saves her and her son's lives. That's when she begins to believe in some of the things he's saying. She begins to believe that maybe, just maybe... There's hope for the dying world.
