A Flag for Haiti is a historical fiction book written by Joanne Gregg that tells the tale of a girl named Katy who has been given the precious task of sewing the first flag for Haiti. Katy loved her country and felt really lucky to have been asked to undertake this immense task. When asked what inspired her to write the book, the author said: "As a child, I loved to read. However, none of the books I got were about people from her country or neighborhood. I always dreamed of writing books where little children from Haiti were the main characters of the stories". A Flag for Haiti was written to help start conversations about the beauty of the island that often gets overlooked by the media. The book is well written and readers won't soon forget this heart-warming tale of valour, beauty and patriotism.
