The reader will judge whether America's tolerance of different races and cultures is dependent on good times and whether America is immune from Hitler-like tyrants when times get tough. The reader will be forced to confront the issue of whether the American Dream of the Founding Fathers, of building a nation based on the sacred rights of personal freedom and self-determination, has run its course. Or, whether the innate goodness of America and our awakening realization that freedom is more important than the air we breathe, will save us.
