The first year of issue Lincoln Wheat Ear Cent was minted in 1909 and marked the first time an American President appeared on a coin. The wheat penny celebrated the 100th anniversary of Lincoln's birth. The penny was designed by Victor D. Brenner. He placed his initials, VDB, on the base of 1909 pennies on the reverse side. The initials were too prominent and were removed almost immediately before further mintage in 1909. The initials were brought back in 1918 but on a different place on the coin. The 1909 and 1909 VDB First Year of Issue Lincoln Wheat-Ear Penny collection is housed in a protective sealed acrylic case. The 1909 pennies were composed of 95 percent copper. A Certificate of Authenticity is included.
